(My players, for instance, are used to relatively low-magic campaigns, so they never, ever part with magical stuff.)Melanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07165894144553629675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6188119851730922397.post-54793413034857475122021-12-30T11:18:31.094+01:002021-12-30T11:18:31.094+01:00What next, cavaliers and thief-acrobats? The only edition of D&D that explicitly provides x.p. for magic items is 1E AD&D; Gygax paid some lip-service to the idea (w/regard to OD&D) in an old edition of The Strategic Review, and gave some rough guidelines, but it was never codified outside of the 1E rules.

For clones, maybe OSRIC does it (I'm not familiar enough to say), but I know you won't find an "xp-for-magic" system in S&W, LotFP, BlueHolmes, or LL...and I'd guess OSE doesn't either, given that it is a B/X clone. Many editions and clones are explicit about NOT awarding xp for magic items (sold or retained), so it would probably be helpful to ADD that consideration to the text of your designs.

It might, at least, cut down on potential disappointment.
; )JBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03263662621289630246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6188119851730922397.post-75081608800655274382021-12-27T18:01:50.665+01:002021-12-27T18:01:50.665+01:00I think I've been playing with "gold valu...I think I've been playing with "gold value equivalency for magic items" in my XP awards for so long I forget it's not a standard.Commodorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12721421512524513327noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6188119851730922397.post-79986821724438589702021-12-27T17:42:44.234+01:002021-12-27T17:42:44.234+01:00Having just reviewed on of Gibson's adventures...Having just reviewed on of Gibson's adventures for my own charity contest, I find myself unsurprised by the "impoverished" critique. Not to sound too harsh, but it causes me to wonder what kind of XP system Ben's used to running: he creates interesting and imaginative scenarios, but the potential rewards (for the players) are SO spare as to be terribly frustrating.
