It was mostly a Lankhmar/CSIO-like urban crawl with some sidetreks that involved a vampire castle on an island, trips to hell, and an adventure in outer space. The "quest for it" mentality Goodman pushes in the Judge's advice section and the long-term effects of mercurial magic, spell effects, criticals are great for campaign play, which makes the community's focus on one shots feel a wasted opportunity. Goodman Games at least tries with Purple Planet, Chained Coffin, Lankhmar, and the forthcoming Dying Earth boxed set. Fingers crossed they don't mess up the latter.Tamás Illéshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11415717108941674663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6188119851730922397.post-80735358045317212942022-03-21T11:29:18.004+01:002022-03-21T11:29:18.004+01:00This is the way most DCC adventures are structured...This is the way most DCC adventures are structured, and the standard seems to be much stronger than in the "OSR". I have not played the game enough to decide whether this is a feature stemming from play culture, or inherent to the rules. I wonder if you could play campaign-style DCC. Probably yes.Melanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07165894144553629675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6188119851730922397.post-90629549104095287232022-03-21T00:53:12.476+01:002022-03-21T00:53:12.476+01:00DCC was always one of those game systems that look...DCC was always one of those game systems that looked interesting from afar, that I never read. I really ...I've always been... uneasy with DCC. I really love the game, it's freaking great, but the game manual presents the game as a game suitable for campaigns: patron allegiances, some spell effects (which last weeks, months or even years!) and divine punishments... But then the adventures are all episodic and tournament inspired. Great adventures, but not suitable for a campaign. It's a very strange dichotomy that I don't really like, but at the same time I love the game and I love the adventures.Nirkhuzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01625430841723207402noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6188119851730922397.post-28120306880705310312022-03-20T09:39:13.630+01:002022-03-20T09:39:13.630+01:00Yep, sounds like your typical DCC RPG adventure. Somehow this flew under my radar despite the publisher being pretty productive.Tamás Illéshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11415717108941674663noreply@blogger.com
