The treasure per delve or location seems to be in line with the general exepctation. I would not lower the loot either, as having several magic items over the course of multiple levels of gaming is a feature, not a bug. And that of course assumes that all of it will be found, there are some secret vaults here. I suspect it is a bit generous, but no monty haul. The overall concept is interesting. However upon prepping to run this, I believe I’d only run it as a one off mini campaign as written. It’s a bit of a monte haul. I have added up the monster / treasure xp and it’s a bit higher on the gold side than even Moldvay himself recommends (75% xp from treasure), it’s 92%.

If a party of 6 PCs completed/found everything, they’d each 13.5K xp (pre-wandering monsters – and the entirety of the Labyrinth Forest is wandering encounters!). A good portion of the treasure isn’t behind a secret door, a devious trap, or a slog through bad guys, either. Most is relatively unguarded.

Expect your party to find up to 18 magical arms / armor (including some +2’s and special vs.), 3 rings, 2 staves, and 4-5 misc magic items. Quite a haul for a low level romp. Again, most of these are not hard to find if the party is going to each location. I’m not really concerned with scrolls and potions which seemed about right.

Many of encounters that would be a serious fright are softened a bit (a particularly nasty undead bangs on his sarcophagus for release). Every secret door has some descriptive text that makes it seem easier to find, but it’s not clear that a modifier should be employed, so I’m just using it as a descriptor when the roll is successful.

There are some decent traps, not all are murderous, some block the party’s way or dump them into less that desirable conditions.

The monster selection is not very diverse, you tend to battle the same things again and again. I am definitely adding some different creatures and including a few more – especially around that loot just sitting there.

I suspect this comment may get shat upon that I don’t know OSR and that treasure doesn’t come from battle – and I’m not saying that, really. Overall, there’s a lot to work with here, but I feel that I will be working a bit to get it to fit my idea of OSR/OSE/BX style play. It’s a great first effort and as a one man show it’s mighty impressive. I just plan to lower the loot a bit for my campaign.Kelly Davishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04013072848184600932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6188119851730922397.post-19217674172474365272021-12-07T04:47:24.004+01:002021-12-07T04:47:24.004+01:00I have done the same, makes nice filling and becau...I have done the same, makes nice filling and because it is "vanilla" it has very little impact on the rest of the area. But then the entry in the appendix says nothing more than "Magic Crystal".
