[NEWS] July 30% off site-wide sale

Now 30% off!

I am pleased to announce that, starting from July 1 and ending July 20, I will be holding a site-wide sale on all currently available EMDT products. All products will be marked down by 30% in this period. All orders above $120 (excluding shipping) will also qualify for a free zine of your choice (just note in the order what you would prefer from the $6 to $10 range).

The reasons for the sale are quite good: over the last few years, my business has developed nicely, and it has grown enough that it now makes more sense to run it as an LLC than a sole proprietorship. I will accordingly move sales over to the LLC from early August. This is best done with low inventory for accounting reasons, so to sweep out product, the sale is now on!

At the end of July, the store will be shut down for a few weeks as I transfer operations and stock to the LLC. In August, there will be a short trial run, probably followed by a week or two of pause while we continue to be hammer out the details with the accountants and fix any bugs that might come up. After that, EMDT will be back to full operational capacity.

So if you would like to pick up something, this is a decent time to do so. Onwards and upwards!

  1. Congrats on "going pro" Melan! I greedily helped myself to your sale, and my library will be ever the grander for it.

    1. Yes, but... do you whave two of them each? Do you have FIVE?! This must be a hard spiritual burden. Unbearable. Excruciating. There is only one way to make it stop.

  3. Hello, I have never bought any of your zines before so I don't know what is "normally" available. Will there be new stock of all issues of Echoes once you have finished your transfer?

    1. Sure thing! I will be reprinting out-of-stock titles once things are done. I also have some limited old stock left at my weekend house, which I will be selling once I get there.

  4. I haven’t read the new stuff yet, but everything you’ve written so far has been an absolute masterclass when it comes to OSR. I’m really curious about Helveczia RPG, since I love Potocki’s 'The Manuscript Found in Saragossa' — it’s a shame there are so few reviews or actual plays online. Braterskie pozdrowienia z Polski!

    1. Thank you! I still haven't read Saragosa, but it was recommended to me specifically in the context of Helvéczia, so the connection seems solid.

    2. I definitely recommend it! There's a film adaptation by Wojciech Has, considered a masterpiece by many — though in my opinion it's incredibly boring ;) The book is really long, but certainly not boring!

    3. I was recommending The Saragossa Manuscript movie adaptation to Melan and others without having read the original book, but on its own and after a recent re-watch of the uncut 180+ minutes version I still stand by my endorsement of it.
The uncut version is freely available here in digitally restored/remastered quality, with optional English subtitles:

Also, thanks for reminding me about the source material; legally readable here in English after registration:

A different, two volume edition in English:

Audiobook version in Polish, in the Public Domain:

DISCLAIMER: One of my grandfathers was Polish, so I may be biased in my endorsement. ;b

    4. I’m not sure how well it comes across in the English (or Hungarian) translations, but here in Poland we've ended up with a few solid versions—one of them quite recent (the original version was written in French, pff). I honestly doubt that even a 3- or 5-hour film could do justice to the sheer abundance of plotlines, fantastical tales, and vivid characters. And the writing itself—it's gorgeous! Personally, I consider The Manuscript the greatest Polish novel (even if it was written in French, pff). It’s absolutely worth dipping into at random—like the Bible ;)—just to spark the imagination. It's packed with RPG-worthy material. Apparently, Olga Tokarczuk uses a similar technique (though I wouldn’t recommend her work, lol). I strongly encourage you to give it a read. And if you’ve got any recommendations for Hungarian fantastical literature, I’d love to hear them :)

(of which one even has a Polish translation in the Public Domain)

  5. Argh! I can't believe I missed this sale! I've been planning on ordering EVERYTHING. Any chance you'll do something like this again? Thanks!!

    1. Probably not any time soon; this sale had specific goals, and I don't foresee them repeating soon. I generally try to make things affordable to a rational extent.

    2. No worries, I totally understand! Once the new shop is up and running, I will still order all of it then! Thanks!

  6. I have been reading your fine zines before bedtime. An NPC came to me last night in a dream from Fomalhaut:
Ylarn Vuz, purveyor of fossils from "recent layers" (confabulations of bleached bone from the desert) 1:6 bones animate spontaneously

  7. Hi,
I really hope that a restock of EfF#13 will be made. I have followed and purchased all 12 leading up to it, and basically everything! But I missed this sale and so I missed #13.

Congratulations though and I look forward to all that is coming!

    1. Hi Pat -- I will be reprinting the zines for sure in my LLC. I also have a limited amount of stock at my weekend house, which I will be selling from for a while once I reopen.

    2. That's awesome. I hope I notice when you reopen quickly and get one in time. Looking forward to all the good things to come with your LLC!
